Tips to Create Change in Time for the Holidays

Yikes!  Thanksgiving has passed and we are approaching December 2012 at lightening speed, but there is still time to make major changes that look like a big splurge.  You can get lots of style without spending a fortune.

Here are some tips that I hope will help:

     (1)  Paint fireplace - change outdated brassy trim
     (2)  Change panels on doors or bookcases by painting or wall covering
     (3)  Create a new space plan - better conversation areas, comfy niche
     (4)  New lamp, fixture or lighting (nothing shows in the dark)
     (5)  Add or change an area rug to define a space or add color
     (6)  Redress upholstery with pillows
     (7)  Add trim, nail heads to sofa, chair.....perhaps headboard
     (8)  Change artwork, photographs...........table to wall.......vica versa
     (9)  Use special pieces in new way.......be adventurous
    (10) Think outside the box - with color, furniture, texture and fabric

Let me know what you think.  Please take some pictures and feel free to ask questions.  You can reach me 24/7 at:  Sheila@jmsinteriors.net  If you need some help with time, let me know.  This is a good time to create new spaces that you can enjoy for a long time.

Monica and me - LVWM 2012

Monica Pedersen of HGTV and I met about 4 years ago at the Las Vegas World Market and have been friends ever since!  Always fun to catch up with this beautiful and warm personality. This year's market had many exciting products and the special seminar that Monica gives always provides a great overview of new things.  It is appropriately titled "First Look - New Products & Trends".  Glad that she can do a preview to help me see "everything".

So much to see in a few days, but lots of finds.  Definitely something for everyone!  Colors range from bright and bold to matte and minerals, overcast and shadowy to pretty and modern.  White, earth tones, dramatic prints - lots of "hair-on hide" furnishings which celebrate the simple, authentic and rugged beauty of objects.  Horns of the majestic stage inspires accessories.  Eclectic accent furniture mixed with classic pieces looks just right.  Hollywood glam to past perfect nostalgia is there to create your personal style.  All kinds of special lighting, accessories, centerpieces, fabulous area rugs in amazing textures, patterns.  Beautiful, rich colors are front and center to help create a fresh look and give your home a new vibe!

I have lots of photos and new products to share.  Best of all your space is always personalized.  It should reflect YOU.  Let me know if you have questions.....want to create new spaces........refresh existing spaces.  We can translate dreams into reality.  It's easier than you think!

Hiya:

I must confess that I have not been diligent about posting..........spring ran away and here we are in July.  Lots going on this summer to share with you.  Hopefully some food for thought, too.

Translating dreams into reality is still and always will be the main focus of JMS Interiors!  It is what we do.  Included in the "translation" is:  (1) value, (2) price, (3) selection, (4) quality, and (5) confidence and trust.  All makes your project successful, regardless of the scope.

Helping you develop a budget is most important and something I need to be aware of so that I can plan accordingly ........ are we planning buying a BMW or a KIA?  If we do not have a plan, how can we begin?  We can work from stock to custom, depending on your comfort zone and the parameters of your space.  We can confirm your wants and needs to give you direction and certainly a head start on your new space(s).  Give yourself the gift of comfort, beauty and function.

There are very exciting colors, furniture, lighting shapes and materials, fabric and accessories just waiting for you.  I will be bringing back new ideas and new sources from the summer furniture market............I am sure there will be great stuff from Organic to elegant and everything in between for your indoor and outdoor spaces.  Please let me know if there is something special on your wish list.

Enjoy the summer!

Where does the time go?

How did it get to be mid April so fast? Seems that Spring 2012 has been a busy and exciting time with many fun projects that have allowed me the privilege of personal designs for some lovely families.  Sorry there hasn't been more time to blog.  There will be more photos very soon.  Such fun to see before and afters.  Most of all, I love seeing how changes in textures and colors bring new meaning to our homes and smiles to the families who take this leap of faith.

The fun part is seeing things come together.  The not so much fun part is the unexpected delay of product.  I am impatient by nature and strive to do projects in a smooth and timely manner.  I guess it is still not a perfect world.  However, part of my job as a designer is to take care of the details, so my clients can just enjoy the finished project.

Do you have any special questions?  Photos to share of a space that might need a bit of tweaking?  Just email me at:  Sheila@jmsinteriors.net.  I promise to answer .  Talk to you soon.

The way it was.........

Doesn't this bathroom look a bit generic?  Just wait and see what happens to this rather typical and somewhat vanilla bathroom!  It will still have a vanity, toilet, and tub - but I bet you won't believe your eyes.

In a couple of weeks I will post the completion of this renovation.  I can't wait to share this great makeover and it will not be an April Fool's joke!!  When a good designer meets the challenge amazing things happen.  When  a client expresses their wants and is willing to trust and go the extra mile for a one-time makeover, extraordinary results are possible.

Appropriate lighting, colors, shapes, and textures really do breathe new life into tired spaces.  My client had special wants, and after in depth conversations about the reality of a physically limiting space, I was able to guide her to sources and options that would be both beautiful and functional.  We were also able to use a special antique mirror with all new furnishings to bring harmony and interest to an intrinsically bland space.   Love it when creative juices flow and we can bring a client's personality front and center!

Stay tuned for the big reveal.  Do you have a challenge?  Comments and questions are welcomed  at:  Sheila@jmsinteriors.net

First blog of March 2012

Spring is just around the corner......maybe it has already arrived.  Hard to believe that we are already into March and that April and May are just aroud the corner.  Do you know that 2012 can breathe new life into your most important possession?

Textures, patterns and fresh colors can easily change drab to fab!  Can I help you create a new room?

It has been a busy time for me with some incredible renovations - certainly not the DIY variety - but changes for clients that are truly transforming.  Keep an eye out for some major before and after shots of kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces.  Listening to my clients wishes, working with a plan, developing reasonable expectations, surely helps me "translate dreams into reality".  It is such fun to turn ordinary into extraordinary!!!   Want to know how?  The first step is a phone call away, but be patient, JMS Interiors is booking into the summer.

In with the new !!!

The newly remodeled bath featured in the San Diego Union Tribune on Saturday January 28, 2012 can also be seen at www.UTsandiego.com - Lifestyles - Home and Garden section!

Here is a great view as you enter the new space!  The bath looks and feels as though it is twice as big.  Great custom cabinetry, lighting, and stone-like floors makes the room beautiful and functional.

A four foot open shower across from the free standing slipper tub gives the homeowners plenty of "elbow room".  Amazing what a bit of planning will do.  It was great fun and I really appreciated the trust I was given to use special materials and shapes.  What do you think?

New Year - New You

Design begins with a feeling........maybe a mood.........maybe a wish.........maybe a fantasy.  However it begins is a good thing.  Sometimes we want a clean slate and sometimes we want to add colors that lift our spirits, but don't know how to begin.  I know I can help.

Do you want to change your look or your life?  We are so affected by our environment and with a bit of guidance, you can change your look.  Have you decided that 2012 will be the year you will be more gutsy or passionate or chic or elegant?  Now is a great time for a new beginning.

I would love to help you define and create your personal space.  Finding the best colors or home decor for you makes the place you live more comfortable and inviting.  You know you are worth it .....and the changes you make allow you to be more productive and focused, attending to the business and pleasure of your life.

Make 2012 special!!  Give me a call or send me a note.  I look forward to answering your questions.
